Is social distancing boring you? We got you! Read on for a list of twenty-six activities to try when you have nothing better to do:
1. Drink Water
Hydrate or die-drate! If you're bored, get up and drink a glass of water. It'll make you feel more energized, and it's really important for your health. Try to drink water instead of soda or juice as much as possible—sugary drinks make you feel tired and don't hydrate nearly as well as water does.
When you don't have plans, it can be really tempting to stay up late doing nothing productive. If you're bored at night, try just going to bed! Teenagers typically need more than the eight hours of sleep you often hear recommended, so turn off your alarm and snooze! If you want to sleep in style, shop our Bed collection here.
3. Cook A Healthy Meal
Being at home is a great opportunity to learn how to cook, which is a really useful skill for when you live on your own in a dorm or apartment. Search the internet for a healthy recipe and challenge yourself to make it—you'll learn new cooking skills and have a delicious, healthy meal to enjoy afterward.
4. Take A Bath
Take a moment to relax! Customize your bath as much as you want after filling the tub with warm water. Some ideas are using bubble bath, a bath bomb, essential oils, flower petals, a reading tray, and playing music. You'll feel super relaxed when you're done and you'll smell amazing.
5. Redecorate Your Room
Now is the perfect time to redo your room. Ask a family member for help moving furniture around, try DIY room decor projects, and shop for new decor items here. Redecorating your room is a bit of a time investment, but it will keep you busy, and when you're done, you'll have a super trendy new space to hang out in.
6. Practice A New Makeup Look
Whether you like to wear makeup often or not, practicing fun new looks is an activity that can keep anyone busy! Go on YouTube and find a tutorial, then challenge yourself to do it. If it turns out good, then you've got a new going-out look, and if it turns out bad... no one needs to know.
7. Have A Photoshoot
Grab a family member, or a tripod, or set a self-timer on your phone, and have a photoshoot! Get as creative as you want—photograph your belongings, the outdoors, or your cool outfits, hair, and makeup looks. If your Instagram feed needs some love right now, this is a great way to generate some ~content~.
8. Put Together An Outfit
Walk, walk, fashion, baby... channel your inner Anna Wintour and put together a unique outfit. Go through all your clothes, and don't be afraid to borrow from family members—do your best to coordinate colors and play with different textures. When you find an outfit you love, then take a picture and you'll be able to wear it out once quarantine ends.
9. Have A Dance Party
Queue some upbeat music, turn it loud, and dance! Dancing is a great way to get rid of stress and—if you get good enough—it seems to be a way to get Internet famous on TikTok. Try coming up with your own dances, or go on YouTube for tutorials.
10. Make A Healthy Recipe Book
If cooking one healthy meal was fun for you, try compiling a recipe book that you can reference in the future! Just search for healthy recipes online, print them out, and put them into a binder. A healthy recipe book is a great item to pack when you move out for the first time—you don't want to get stuck eating only frozen food because you don't know what to cook.
11. Do An Ab Workout
Core strength is great for anyone to build up, whether you exercise a lot or not. Here's an easy five-minute ab workout: do a plank, side planks on each side, flutter kicks, V-ups, scissors, cherry pickers, leg lifts, slow mountain climbers, and lemon-squeezers for thirty seconds each. You'll feel the burn and be stronger for it!
12. Clean Your Room
Cleaning your room is a really productive thing to do when you're bored. Read our article here for a list of eight ways to make your room cleaner than ever. Plus, your parents or roommates will definitely thank you!
13. Go For A Run or Walk
If the weather is nice, go for a run or a walk by yourself. Make sure you stay at least six feet away from other people, though. Being outside is a great way to get Vitamin D, and moving is important for your daily health. Plus, running gives you dopamine, and dopamine makes you happy, so it's a great habit to pick up.
14. Do A Hair Mask
Hair masks are a great way to make your hair smell really good, and to get healthier, stronger hair overall. We found some great recipes here. Making a hair mask at home and then using it is a great way to spend time pampering yourself.
Whether you have schoolwork or not, studying is always possible. Find things that you don't understand as well as you should and set aside an hour a day to study them. Whether this is a new language, math, or something else, studying is a self-improvement method that has been around forever. Don't be afraid to be smart!
16. Paint Your Nails
Salons are closed, so give yourself a mani-pedi! Go wild with the design: try new colors, decals, or challenge yourself to do nail art. Either way, when you're done, your fingers and toes will look awesome.
17. Do A Face Mask
It seems that we all have extra face masks lying around—or, if you don't, find a recipe online. Put those masks to good use and take fifteen minutes out of your day to do a face mask. There are many types of face masks that have different effects, like moisturizing or tightening. Make sure to choose one that is appropriate for your skin type to avoid discomfort, then sit back and relax while you pamper your face.
18. Learn A New Skill
Did you know that you can learn a new skill with just fifteen minutes a day? The key to learning a new skill is building a habit of practicing it. Whether you want to become flexible, learn a new language, or almost anything else, set aside time every single day and you'll see yourself improve before your own eyes.
By taking ten minutes out of your day on an everyday basis, you can meditate and slowly work towards finding your inner peace or balance. Check YouTube for a multitude of great meditation tutorials, and make sure to practice them in a place without distractions.
Find a recipe for a simple sugar scrub online, or use an exfoliator that you already own. Either way, exfoliation is healthy for the skin if you don't do it on a regular basis. This makes it a great activity for when you're bored, but make sure not to do it too often, or you'll damage your skin.
21. Try Out Yoga
Yoga is another great way to feel peaceful, but it's much more active than meditation, and it's a good workout. Find beginner yoga tutorials online, and try to change it up a little every day. Namaste!
22. Make A Playlist
Whether you prefer Spotify, Apple Music, or something else, your playlists probably need updating. Create a quarantine tunes playlist that is full of whatever music you happen to be vibing right now. When you're done, share it with your far-away friends—it's a great way to connect while social distancing.
23. Try A New Hairstyle
Are you jealous of the people you see with fancy braids and gorgeous curls? Well, now you have time to try them out yourself. You can follow a tutorial on YouTube or go freestyle—just play around and customize your hairstyle to your particular hair type. When you're done, you'll have the skills to create a cool hairstyle any time your outfit needs some pizzazz.
24. Listen To A TED Talk
TED talks are motivational speeches that are pretty short, yet super inspirational. You can find them here. Listening to a TED talk seems boring before you do it, but you won't regret it. The speakers are really knowledgeable and will give you the motivation you need to try something new for yourself.
25. Read A Book
Is there a book you've been wanting to read, but have been putting it off because you're "too busy?" Well, now that excuse is gone. Put down your phone and read a physical book—it will take your imagination to amazing places, and you'll be smarter for it.
26. Clean Your Makeup Tools
One last thing to do when you're bored is clean your makeup tools, if you use them. It's easy to forget to clean your makeup brushes and sponges, even though this should be done often. To clean your makeup brushes, just use soap and water, then let them dry. Beauty blenders should be soaked in water and microwaved to disinfect them. Make sure to check tutorials on YouTube if you're unsure to avoid damaging your tools.
